RADC 90th Anniversary
2011 marks the 90th Anniversary of the formation of the Army Dental Service, with the 4th January being the date of the issue of the Royal Warrant with the Army Order authorising formation of the Corps published on the 11th January (signed by Winston Churchill).
Although the 11th January is seen as the official birthday of the Corps, Various events will be taking place throughout the year to mark this significant anniversary year.
Move and Rededication of the Corps Memorial Stone from its present location at Evelyn Woods Road Aldershot to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas Staffs.
The initial planning stage of this move is now complete with the Landscape committee of the NMA having approved the move. The application now moves to full committee on 26 Oct 10. The Rep Col Comdt, Reg Sec & CRSM have a meeting with the Arboretum Curator on Thurs 28th Oct when it is hoped that full acceptance of the proposal will be announced. If this is the case, then we will then proceed with arranging the renovation, cleaning and actual move of the memorial stone to the NMA. Once this has been finalised, we will then begin identifying a suitable date in summer 2011 for the formal rededication of the memorial stone in its new location at the Arboretum. Full details of progress of this project will continue to be updated and published on this website throughout the year.
Corps Weekend 2011
Building on the success and positive feedback from Corps Weekend 2010, It is intended to deliver a slightly amended structure to Corps weekend 2011.
This year’s weekend will begin with the optional activities of Golf, sailing, and cast and blast taking place on Fri 16 Sept. Following these Friday activities, The Senior and Junior Ranks will proceed to the Sgts Mess for their annual social function with the Officers returning to the Officers’ Mess for their Annual Reunion Dinner.
Saturday morning will see the Director’s address to the Corps (One single address to the Corps as a whole instead of the previous year’s group addresses). This will be followed by the church and parade rehearsal, leaving the remainder of the Saturday free to catch up with friends till 1930hrs.
The success of last year’s All Ranks function has highlighted the appeal of such a function and it is the intention this anniversary year to focus on the Saturday Night All ranks function as the main Anniversary function of the weekend . This function will utilise Corps funds to ensure that a value for money event is provided for all ranks with the emphasis for subsidy being on the Junior Ranks of the Corps. The point of contact for this function is the Staff assistant to the Commandant and further detail of this event will be posted on the website as it becomes available and progresses throughout the year.
Sunday morning will see the Church Service at the Royal Garrison Church of All Saints at 1100hrs – Please note the later start time. This will be immediately followed by the parade and march past outside theGarrison Church. After the success of last year’s inclusion of our Association and Old comrades platoon in the parade, we hope that as many ex Corps members as possible will try to come along to the service and join us in the marchpast afterwards.
